How Bangladesh became the world's second-largest textile exporter

 

Bangladesh have one of the largest textile industry in the world. Textile industry is one of the largest jobs provider sector in Bangladesh. After China, Bangladesh has one of largest textile exporter in the world. Majorly, textile industry one of the reason for economic growth in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh surpassed India as the world's second largest textile exporter in 2013. Textile exports in the country increased to $20.4 billion in 2013, up from $19.2 billion in 2012. The increase might be ascribed to rising worldwide demand for Bangladeshi textiles. Garments, yarns and textiles, and carpets and rugs account for the majority of the country's textile exports. Due to its great competitive edge in low-cost clothes and good cotton production circumstances, Bangladesh has maintained its position as the world's second biggest textile exporter.

In 1978, Mr. Nurul Kader Khan secretary from Bangladeshi Government observed job crisis in upcoming time in Bangladesh. In 1978 he sent 130 trainees to South Korea to learn about how to made readymade garments. After completion of their training these 130 trainees started textile export business in Bangladesh. In 1980 Desh Garments name company gives one of the major breakthrough in garments export.

Bangladeshi people provided huge support to that industry that’s why in current time Bangladesh have more than 5000 textile industries in country. Country textile quality appreciated worldwide due to dedication of their peoples. Bangladesh have 8th largest labor force in the industry. Textile industry providing employment to more than 10 million peoples in the country. 80 percent of their textile export was in European union and USA.

Current figures from Industry

According to figures from July 2021 to January 2022 Bangladesh have shown 30% percent growth in textile industry. Right now no country can compete their growth rate in this sector. Till 2025, Bangladesh expected $100 BN Dollar export in textile sector.

Bangladeshi Government provided huge support to the growth of textile industry by their plans. Government provide better power generating infrastructure to their industries. Government also given valuable incentives to workers who working in that industry.

Today the garment industry in the country provides direct employment for four million workers and indirect employment to nearly 10 million people it is estimated that 80 of workers in this industry are women and this has a good impact on women empowerment in the country moreover their garment industries benefited from custom free access to Many western countries as you know Bangladesh is on the list of least developed countries and many rich nations in the west remove the export duties to help the developing countries this makes made in Bangladesh garments more competitive.
